That feeling when... it's time to throw a summer party
Memorial Day Weekend, Flag Day, the 4th of July… the best summer parties are chic with a patriotic twist. No need to over-complicate or go overboard with decorations and hours of preparation. As long as the sun is shining and the drinks are flowing, your guests are bound to have a great time. Here’s how Lilly does a summer soiree:
set the decor
Décor can be simple and festive. Find fresh flowers at your local farmer’s market. Use your own vases to create arrangements around the space. Your menu selection can also serve as décor. When plating dishes in buffet style, create eye catching displays. This instantly adds to a colorful and chic party.
Use summer-fresh ingredients. Make a beautiful salad and add a protein and starch to round the selection. Some of our favorite dishes include lemon grilled salmon filets with cold quinoa salad or beef and portobello sliders with horseradish potato salad. Simple food will allow your guests to avoid the uncomfortable questions of what ingredient is in what. Loading up a cheese board and bringing it to the beach is always the best backup option too.
drinks on us
Let your guests serve themselves. Feature glass pitchers of water and iced tea as well as alcohol options like chilled wine and a bubbly cocktail. Our tips? Add frozen fruit to a fresh cocktail and attach a bottle opener to a drink tub with beautiful ribbon so it doesn’t get lost and everyone can get their own drinks.
Plant party games. Sometimes a silly game of bag toss is exactly what guests need to break the ice. Some other favorites include Jenga for pre-dinner activities or bocce ball. Put a deck of cards on each table and see what happens.
Keep guests comfortable. Leave hand held fans around the seating areas to allow guests to fan off in the heat. Or have a cooler dedicated to cold compress towels. Buy festive colored wash clothes and roll them with a piece of twill. Stick them in an ice cold cooler, filled with sliced lemons for a refreshing scent, so guests can help themselves throughout the day.
Loosen up and have fun. If you get overwhelmed, delegate tasks like playing DJ or refilling a tray of pre-cut veggies. Enjoy yourself and everyone will be ready to party with you, and remember – your guests are only as comfortable as their host!
