Did you know that March is Women’s History Month? Here at Lilly Pulitzer, this time of year is extra special to us. Our history tells a story of a fearless woman who set out to do things her own way. Her sense of adventure and leading with her heart led her to elope, brought her to live in Palm Beach year-round, and her sense of entrepreneurship led her to the citrus groves where her famous juice stand stemmed from. If you’ve heard it once, you know the rest… It all started with a juice stand. Little did Lilly herself know that her life (and ours) would change forever with a simple solution to her juice stain problems: a printed shift. It was easy, fun and hid the stains! Once word got out about the “Lilly’s,” they took off like zingo!
Over 60 years later, Lilly’s sense of passion and entrepreneurship still holds true today. Lilly Pulitzer’s employees are currently over 91% female. And guess what? We have no signs of slowing down. Lilly Pulitzer is also female-led. Our CEO Michelle Kelly believes in innovation, the need for constant inspiration and a willingness to be different.
Here at Lilly Pulitzer, our mission is to inspire confidence and optimism, making the world a happier place one print at a time. But no one inspires us more than you! Everyday we see or hear stories of women in our Lilly community bringing sunshine to those around them. Take a look at some of our favorite stories, brought to us from our store associates.
“We have a Sunshine Story in our store, Beth D.! Beth is a retired, public school teacher and brightens the staff and customer’s day with her positive, bubbly attitude. When she’s not working at Lilly, she crochets scarves for Operation Gratitude, Ronald McDonald house, Matthew Ministries and a local women’s shelter. Last year, Beth donated over 100 scarves!” – Laurie R., Area Manager
“The bond between a mother and daughter is so special and spans across the years. Even more so when a mother and daughter go through a traumatic experience together. At the age of 4, my daughter Jacqueline was diagnosed with Leukemia and given only weeks to live. My world instantly turned dark and grey from devastation. Through my strong will, love and determination for my daughter to live, I leaned on my family, faith and the tremendous physicians at Beaumont Hospital. Jacqueline not only survived several years of chemotherapy treatments, she celebrated 30 years in Remission just last week!
With each new day and the rise of the sun, we never gave up hope. Together, Jacqueline and I continue to celebrate each day with a zest for life through our work and commitment to the community through various charities. Our mission remains to be thankful, thoughtful and to spread rays of sunshine and hope in the lives of others who may need it. Jacqueline is the sunshine of my life and to those all around her.” – Jessica and Emily, nominated by our Somerset team in Troy, MI
We love these stories so much that we want to hear more! Do you know somebody who is staying positive through a tough time? Or maybe a BFF that is about to graduate from a challenging program and break new boundaries? Or is there a woman in your life that just IS the sunshine? Tell us your stories!
