Meet Zac Mathias

From a very young age, Zac has been unapologetically himself—very pink and outspoken. Growing up in suburban Connecticut, he didn’t always fit in; instead of soccer, his favorite weekend activity in elementary school was going shopping with his mom. Zac has always had a strong love of design. In middle school, he started The Classic Chic, which embodies his philosophy that everything in our lives should be chic, from our clothes to the toothpaste we use. Through social media, Zac has built a community of people who are unapologetically themselves and always on the hunt for the chicest must-haves. He is excited to embark on his freshman year at The New York School of Interior Design this fall.

How does wearing Lilly Pulitzer make you feel?

Wearing Lilly has always made me happy. I have been a lifelong lover of the brand and it always makes me smile.

What does "Be the Sunshine" mean to you?

It means being unapologetically yourself, because when you are you, you are radiant, and your energy is infectious.

Is there a message or mantra that inspires you?

I have always lived by this quote: “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” Anytime there is a naysayer, I just remind myself of this mantra and keep on working.

How will you be celebrating Pride Month this year?

I’m so excited that this month I get to celebrate with a big event at my local Lilly Signature Store, along with other town Pride events and of course with my friends at NYC Pride!

How do you use your platform to share the It Gets Better message with the LGBTQ+ community?

While everyone’s journey is different, I try to share the message that it gets better with my community. Looking back at how far I’ve come since middle school, I can honestly say I am living my best life, surrounded by people that love and support me.

Is there a person (past or present) in the LGBTQ+ community who has been influential in your life?

So many people, it’s hard to name just one! But I have always loved Carson Kressley from Queer Eye. And Wanda Sykes—as a young kid I loved her in Monster-In-Law, and as I’ve gotten older, I really admire her career.
