A Lilly Summer, Naturally: Harbour Island, Bahamas
Some places feel instantly familiar—like you’ve stepped into a postcard you’ve been dreaming of your whole life. Harbour Island, affectionately known as Briland by locals, is one of those places. With its pastel-painted cottages, colonial charm, and famously blush‑hued shores, this tiny Bahamian island has a way of slowing you down and pulling you in, one sun-drenched moment at a time.
Harbour Island’s story stretches back centuries, from early Lucayan inhabitants to British settlers who shaped Dunmore Town into one of the Bahamas’ oldest villages. Today, that layered history remains beautifully intact. Narrow streets buzz with golf carts, brightly colored clapboard homes line the way, and the harbor hums with island life—equal parts storied past and carefree present. It’s charming without trying, elegant without effort, and endlessly inspiring.
The Perfect Palette: Coral Sands Inn & Cottages
For our summer campaign, there was no place more Lilly than Coral Sands Inn & Cottages. Set directly on the island’s legendary pink sand beach, Coral Sands feels like a living mood board—where our signature pinks, seafoam greens, and sunwashed blues naturally belong.
Founded in 1968 by Brett and Sharon King, Coral Sands has long been a Harbour Island icon, built on a love for the island and its effortless beauty. That original spirit still defines the property today, blending timeless island glamour with playful, modern charm. We were lucky enough to stay in the owners’ cottages, which offered the same historic roots with an intimate, at-home feel—making every morning extra special. (You can explore Brett and Sharon’s story and cottages on the Coral Sands website.)
Inspired by Pink Sands and Turquoise Seas
It was impossible not to draw creative energy from our surroundings. The famous pink sands—soft, luminous, and endlessly photogenic—became a direct muse for our summer collection’s happiest hues. Just steps away, the ocean shifted through every shade of turquoise and aqua, echoing the crisp blues we love to stripe across swim, resort, and cabana pieces.
Even the Coral Sands cabanas felt like they were designed with Lilly in mind—bold stripes, breezy silhouettes, and colors that celebrate sunshine. Everywhere you looked, the island’s natural palette mirrored our own vision of summer done boldly and beautifully.
Island Days, Harbour Nights
Mornings often began with a golf cart ride into town—windows down, salt in the air. We’d stop for breakfast at a local juice bar, then wander along the docks where fishing boats bobbed gently against impossibly blue water. One afternoon, a short boat ride took us out to a dreamy sandbar—clear water, sunlit smiles, and that floating feeling only the Bahamas can give you.
We also took in a horseback ride along the shoreline, pink sand splashing beneath hooves, and spent time exploring Dunmore Town’s shops—finding collectibles and souvenirs that brought a little piece of island life home with us. Just wait until you see the hand‑embroidered Lilly bags we collected along the way.
Whimsy at Every Turn
Back at Coral Sands, the design details alone were their own source of inspiration. Shell motifs tucked into every corner, rattan-wrapped walls, checkerboard patterns, and playful pops of pink and seafoam created a sense of joy and discovery throughout the property. From shell‑encrusted accents to whimsical floors and breezy interiors, the hotel feels curated yet carefree—a perfect reflection of island living and the Lilly state of mind.
Days flowed easily between the sparkling pool and the Atlantic just beyond it. Even the tennis courts felt right at home, color‑coordinated in a way that perfectly aligned with our sporty collection.
Forever a Lilly Summer
Harbour Island isn’t just a destination—it’s a feeling. One of warmth, color, and joy that lingers long after you leave. Filming our summer campaign at Coral Sands Inn & Cottages felt like a celebration of everything we love: vibrant color stories, effortless elegance, and moments made brighter by sunshine and sea.
This was a Lilly summer through and through—and we can’t wait to bring that island magic to you.
See you in the Bahamas! xx Lilly
