LILLY PULITZER × HiNOTE: LOVE, LILLY.
For more than 65 years, Lilly Pulitzer’s iconic prints have been a shared language of color and joie de vivre—passed from mothers to daughters and instantly recognizable. Now, Lilly Pulitzer and HiNOTE bring that heritage into modern correspondence, reimagining beloved hand-painted artwork as beautiful, digital stationery and invitations for our phones. We asked Alexis Traina, founder and CEO of HiNOTE, to share the story behind the app, her vision for modern correspondence, and what makes this Lilly Pulitzer collaboration so meaningful.
For someone discovering HiNOTE for the first time, what is it?
HiNOTE is modern correspondence for a world that scrolls—your stationery box, reimagined for your phone. It is filled with beautifully designed, personalized notes and invitations for every hello, thank you, come over, congratulations, I love you—and everything in between.
What inspired you to create HiNOTE?
Correspondence became inconvenient. Messaging became convenient. But somewhere between the two, we lost the pleasure, personality and intention of a beautiful note. I created HiNOTE to bring those qualities into the way we actually communicate today—on our phones.
Who is the Modern Correspondent?
Every day, hundreds of billions of messages move across our phones. Behind so many of them is the same woman—thanking, inviting, wishing, remembering, checking in and keeping people connected. She is the social glue, conducting the daily choreography of life from the palm of her hand. We call her the Modern Correspondent.
What makes HiNOTE different from a greeting-card or invitation app?
Most products begin with an occasion. HiNOTE begins with the person. It isn’t something you visit only for a birthday or formal invitation; it is a living stationery box for everyday relationships. A HiNOTE can be sent anywhere you already communicate, and any note can become an invitation with RSVP. It belongs inside the conversation—not outside it.
Why does the beauty of a message matter?
Because how a message arrives is part of what it says. Choosing a beautiful note tells someone: this mattered enough to send with care. A text delivers words; a HiNOTE carries mood, personality and intention before the recipient has read a single one.
Why is the Lilly Pulitzer collaboration so personal for you?
There would quite literally be no Alexis Traina without Lilly Pulitzer: Lilly introduced my parents in Palm Beach in 1967. Nearly sixty years later, bringing Lilly Pulitzer and HiNOTE together feels less like a collaboration than the continuation of a story she began.
Why does Lilly Pulitzer belong in the world of modern correspondence?
Lilly has always been more than something women wear. Its iconic prints are a shared language—passed from mothers to daughters and instantly recognizable as optimism in print. HiNOTE gives women a way not only to wear that spirit, but to send it: a distinctly Lilly way to connect, celebrate and show up for the people in their lives.
Which notes from the collection do you love most—and why?
Palm Beach Toile is the most personal. It holds the place where my parents met and where this entire story began; naturally, the first one I send will be to my mother. Coconut Z is pure, irrepressible Lilly—the note for a birthday, invitation or any message that deserves an entrance. Maggies Bouquet feels softer and deeply feminine—the one I would choose when the message itself is tender.
When do you imagine women reaching for the Lilly Pulitzer collection?
For the notes, moments and milestones of a life lived colorfully: the birthday wish, the thank-you, the spontaneous come over, the wonderful news, the celebration and the quiet thinking of you. These aren’t only special-occasion notes. They are beautiful ways to show up in someone’s ordinary day.
What do you hope someone feels when a Lilly HiNOTE arrives on her phone?
Seen, remembered and delighted. I love the idea that an ordinary notification can open into a tiny moment of beauty—a message that feels unmistakably personal before a word is even read. To me, “Love, Lilly” means sending a little more color, care and joy into someone else’s day.
